Saturn Return, Explained: Unpacking Miley Cyrus, Jeff Bezos and Donald Trump

Cosmic Shelf | Star Power

Even if you don’t know much about astrology, the words “Saturn return” are usually enough to scare you.

It happens approximately every 29 years, when Saturn completes a full orbit around the sun and returns to the exact spot it occupied at the moment you were born. But it’s nothing to be afraid of. Saturn is a neutralizer. Do good, and Saturn will reward you. What goes around always comes back around. So do bad… and Saturn is going to teach you a lesson.

Take Jeff Bezos. He launched Amazon during his first Saturn return and stepped down as CEO during his second one at 57 years old to focus on Blue Origin, his rocket company. His Saturn is in Aquarius in the 11th house, the part of the chart that rules community, society, and the future. Aquarius is all about innovation and technology. And since Bezos is an Aries rising, his life lessons center around his impact on society through his career, especially because Saturn rules over his 10th house of public life and achievements.

Miley Cyrus is another Saturn-in-Aquarius example. Her Saturn return hit in 2021, and hers sits directly on her 10th house of career. That March, she left RCA and signed with Columbia Records. Around the same time, she publicly re-embraced her Hannah Montana era, writing an open letter to the character for the show’s 15th anniversary. A big deal, considering she once said that chapter gave her an identity crisis.

Her Saturn return was all about reckoning with identity. And once her Saturn return ended, she released Used To Be Young and later her album Endless Summer Vacation, a more grounded, mature body of work. The album was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 66th Grammys. “Flowers” won Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.

It marked a new serious and evolved era for Miley. She wanted to be taken seriously, and Saturn delivered and rewarded her efforts.

Donald Trump is another example of someone who’s gone through two Saturn returns. He has Saturn in Cancer, sitting in his 11th house. Saturn hates being in Cancer. It’s in what's called “detriment” in this sign, meaning it operates weakly. That lack of strength shows up in his difficulty with emotional boundaries and long-term decision-making.

Cancer is ruled by the Moon, which in Trump’s chart governs his 4th house of family and home. This suggests that his Saturn lessons are tied to women in his family and his private life. During his first Saturn return in 1977, he married his first wife, Ivana Trump. During his second Saturn return in 2005, he married Melania Trump, now the First Lady.

Saturn also rules his 5th house of dating and romance (which falls in Capricorn), as well as his Descendant, the point in the chart associated with marriage and long-term partnerships. So both of his Saturn returns being marked by major relationship milestones tracks perfectly.
