Oh, Hi! Kiara says 4/5

Oh, Hi! is a cautionary tale for modern dating. Molly Gordon (The Bear, Theater Camp) and Logan Lerman (reigning white boy of the month) star in an instant-classic comedy about the trials and tribulations of dating.

Iris and Issac go on a trip together for the first time. When they first arrive, they do all the typical couple things: explore, cook, and have sex. In an attempt to spice things up, they decide to experiment with handcuffs in bed. While Issac is still handcuffed, Iris mentions that they’re a couple, and Issac shockingly denies that status. What ensues afterwards can only be described as a legendary crash-out.
My hot take is that Iris was completely valid! The contents of this movie are an exaggerated depiction of what it's like to date men in 2025. Men want to have their cake and eat it too. They want all the benefits of an exclusive relationship without the label. This movie explores why so many of them are scared of the label and what that does to women. The scary thing about this movie is not being tied up for an extended period; it's the fact that it could happen to anyone.
In some ways, this movie was a horror film because of how easily Iris ended up in this situation. In her mind, she did everything right. She wasn’t assuming much of his intentions; he intentionally withheld his feelings. To the naked eye, Issac and Iris are in a relationship. He touches her longingly, he asks her about her childhood, he looks at her with those big, beautiful eyes. Anyone could have ended up in the same boat as Iris. Like so many women in the dating pool, there isn’t much she could have done to prevent the miscommunication. Men will intentionally leave you in a gray area to avoid having difficult conversations.
It’s not clear how Issac and Iris met, but it was probably one of the many dating apps promising love. This movie got me to delete my dating apps and reflect on the current dating pool. Most of my friends are single and share horror stories similar to Issac and Iris’s situation or situationship, one might say. Oh, Hi! highlights how easily one can end up in a gray area. I’ve always maintained that I could never end up in a situationship, but this movie proves that it’s not always that simple.
Where the movie shines is its unexpected supporting cast. When Iris is unsure what to do about Issac after he’s been handcuffed, she calls her best friend to help. That call brought the movie to a new level of comedy. It could have been easy to lean into the dramatics of the situation, but what makes this movie so good is that it’s a comedy through and through. At a certain point with dating, all you can do is laugh.
This is a perfect date night movie because afterwards you can ask your boyfriend or current situationship some much-needed questions. It opens up a dialogue about dating expectations and open communication. Hopefully, after watching this movie, couples end up stronger, or break up for good. Either way, that’s the mark of a perfect movie if you ask me.
