Moonchild Sanelly joins Shelf

ISSUE II | Shelf Introspect

Happy Friday beautiful people <3! Today’s ShelfMag feature is the one and only Moonchild Sanelly. You might recognize the queer South African ghetto-funk star from her hit song “MY POWER” with Beyoncé and Tierra Whack, or her feature in DIY mag. Born Sanelisiwe Twisha to a family of creatives, today Moonchild Sanelly is here to share some of the different media that’s influenced her impressive career. Follow along to learn more about the Moon Mop wearing ‘future-ghetto-funk artist’ and be sure to stream her album “Full Moon,” out today!

ShelfMAG: What fictional character do you most embody?

@MoonSanelly: My fictional character is one that’s yet to be created. A pussy power liberating harajuku fashion avantgarde cutie with a teal Moon mop and a big booty. She sits on crime—smashes crime with ass!

ShelfMAG: What song has defined your last decade?

@MoonSanelly: Denial is a River by Doechii. She’s fluid, bisexual like me, she says she wasn’t present for her moment before and similar to my song To Kill a Single girl (tequila), I felt like I was not present enough to feel what was happening around me to even appreciate it more, because of that damn tequila—get a therapist people!

ShelfMAG: What artist has had the biggest impact on your career or relationship to music?@MoonSanelly: I have a few; Destiny’s Child (harmonies), Spice Girls (freedom), Brenda Fassie (fuck everything, just do you), Grace Jones and Tina Turner (sexy forever)

ShelfMAG: A movie that makes you cry every time you watch it?@MoonSanelly: Miss Congeniality - I was watching this movie the day my mom died, now when I re-watch it, I tear up.

ShelfMAG: The item on your shelf most likely to stay there forever?@MoonSanelly: Moon Mop
