Love Island USA is The Modern Day Soap Opera

Shelf RATED | TV

We started off Monday’s episode with Charlie’s emotional goodbye to Hannah. Hannah crying with that picture of Charlie, all for her to go on a date with Pepe hours later and not mention Charlie once was incredible. Great performance all around. Congratulations, Hannah, you are now one of my elite clients!

Honestly, I was expecting more from Huda’s crash-out. I don’t like her for many reasons, but primarily because she is a hypocrite. She says she is a “girl’s girl”, but immediately called Iris a bitch and “not a girl’s girl” because she felt that Iris was “withholding information” about her obligatory date with Jeremiah. Iris told the truth! However, it wasn’t what Huda wanted to hear, so she blamed her. Huda internalizes disagreements the wrong way, but swears she is emotionally mature. She also lied about so many things that happened between her and Jeremiah, often skewing the truth to make Jeremiah look worse, and only speaks to people who will validate her. Typical manipulator behavior. When Huda pulled Nic and Ace for chats, they tried their best to help her understand how she was a part of the problem, but despite her telling Nic that she “is one of the most understanding people you’ll ever meet,” it wasn’t clicking. That being said, it is insane that Jeremiah didn’t pull Huda for a chat directly after the recoupling. That was the time for Jeremiah to step up and show her that she had nothing to worry about.

Which brings me to my next point, after episode 13, I have decided that Jeremiah was the real villain after all. Huda may be emotionally unstable, but she isn’t evil. Twitter preaches “E.V.I.L”, Every Villain Is Lightskin, and Jeremiah is proving that theory correct. He showed no remorse for Huda after not talking to her all day and going on a date with Iris. He was a coward for coming back and not taking the opportunity to speak to her and only got emotional when he thought the boys weren’t going to be friends with him anymore. Pathetic.

To make matters worse, Jeremiah had the audacity to admit to the boys that he wished Huda had gone home. Diabolical. He just had sex with this woman! Nic (Huda’s biggest opp, second only to Ace) tried to get Jeremiah to see where Huda was coming from, but he still didn’t listen. Eventually, when he finally pulled her for a chat, he couldn't even look her in the eye for the majority of the conversation. He smiled the entire time, indicating that he didn’t actually feel bad about his actions! He thought the entire situation was funny! America may have had different motivations for wanting to break them up, but ultimately, we did Huda a favor, because Jeremiah is not a good person.

I must also address the ring leader in the villa, Ace. The way the boys listen to him is truly insane. Why does Taylor only put effort into Olandria when Ace says something? Taylor complained, “What else can I do in here?” CHOP. Meanwhile, Ace is on his 3rd or 4th impromptu date idea for Chelly–figure it out!!! Mind you, Ace is still coupled up with Amaya.

Ace is great TV, don’t get me wrong, but he is not the man for Chelly. America’s next mission is to figure out a way to get Chelly the man (or woman) she deserves, and quickly! Personally I want Chelly and Cierra to couple up. Then Nic and Olandria. Either way, this show is just what we needed to unite America. Bravo!
