Tia Williams joins Shelf

ISSUE II | Shelf Introspect

Tia Williams is the author of your next favorite romance novel. She’s also a fan of Stephen King

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today, ShelfMAG is serving up a literary feast featuring one of the biggest, boldest, and downright chicest writers in the game, Tia Williams ! You might recognize her as the bestselling, award-winning genius behind The Accidental Diva, The Perfect Find (yes, that Netflix movie with Gabrielle Union and Keith Powers), Seven Days in June, and A Love Song For Ricki Wilde. But today, this Fairfax, Virginia native (shout-out DMV) is dishing on some of the different media that’s shaped her into one of my all-time favorite authors and beauty editors. Grab a comfy seat, dive into this interview, and don’t forget to snag your copy of A Love Song for Ricki Wilde!

ShelfMAG: What’s your guilty pleasure read?

@TiaWilliams: Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann. And Game of Thrones fan fiction.

ShelfMAG: What song does your family associate with you?

@TiaWilliams: Probably “Rub You the Right Way” by Johnny Gill. When I was on my high school pom squad, I choreographed a half-time performance to this song – and it was so hilariously terrible it’s become part of family lore.

ShelfMAG: A book you wish you could read again for the first time?

@TiaWilliams: Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Upon completing my first read, I slowly closed the book and stared at a wall for eight hours. So impactful.

ShelfMAG: Who was the first TV show or movie character you identified with as a kid?

@TiaWilliams: Whitley Gilbert in A Different World. Misunderstood Miss Prisses from Virginia, unite!

ShelfMAG: The item on your shelf most likely to stay there forever?

@TiaWilliams: My tattered, circa-1986 paperback copy of It by Stephen King. It’s my emotional support novel.
