Gordi joins Shelf
ISSUE II | Shelf Introspect
Gordi is saving lives in more ways than one
You might recognize our next feature from her hit collaboration with Troye Sivan, “Wait,” but this Australian indie-pop folktronica maven is far from typical. After working as a doctor on the frontlines of COVID in Victoria, Australia, Gordi is back and ushering in a new era of her music. Her new single, “Alien Cowboy,” strikes a perfect balance between analog and human and is available to stream on all platforms. Today, she’s here to share some of the media that has shaped her incredible career.

ShelfMAG: Who was the first fictional character you identified with as a kid?
@gordi: Violet Baudelaire in The Series of Unfortunate Events. I admired her resourcefulness, kindness and intelligence.

ShelfMAG: Who was the last musical artist you changed your mind about?
@gordi: Taylor Swift. I had never really got it until I heard Folklore - that album is truly exceptional. Arguably the best instrumentalist (Aaron Dessner) and the best lyricist of our generation coming together to make a record.

ShelfMAG: What song would wake you up if you were in a coma?
@gordi: "Oh Baby" by LCD Soundsystem

ShelfMAG: A movie that makes you cry every time you watch it?@gordi: Interstellar

ShelfMAG: The item on your shelf most likely to stay there forever?
@gordi: Riceboy Sleeps by Jonsi and Alex Somers. I listen to it to fall asleep, to relax, on planes, in the morning. It's like the soundtrack to my life.
