SHELF RECS | Music
FKA twigs is known for creating music that feels like it exists in its own dimension—part dream, part experimental fever dream—but EUSEXUA doesn’t fully stick the landing. While the album has some incredible highs, it also dips into a few moments that left me scratching my head (and not in a good way).

Let’s start with the good: the singles “Eusexua”, “Perfect Stranger”, and “Drums of Death” deliver everything I wanted—hypnotic beats, edgy experimentation, and that intoxicating club energy that twigs does best. These tracks are a perfect balance of emotional depth and sonic chaos, creating an atmosphere that feels alive and electric.
But then there’s “Childlike Things”, which, for me, just…didn’t work. It’s loud, scattered, and jarring in a way that disrupts the album’s flow. The melody feels more obnoxious than playful, and North West speaking Japanese? Sure, it’s bold, but it comes off as more of a “Wait, what?” moment than a meaningful addition. I get that it’s supposed to be fun, but it feels out of place—like an over-the-top outfit in a runway show that doesn’t quite fit the collection.
The second half of the album starts to lose steam. Tracks like “Sticky” flirt with greatness—especially in the last 30 seconds, where an abrupt, glitchy soundscape crashes in—but it’s a tease. That vibe should’ve influenced the rest of the record, but instead, it feels like a one-off moment that doesn’t go anywhere. “Striptease”, on the other hand, is a standout, giving me a glimpse of the twigs I love: sensual, bold, and experimental in a way that actually works. But as a whole, this project feels uneven—like a night out that starts with the perfect vibe but ends with you ready to call an Uber before the last song plays.
For fans, it’s worth a listen, and there are moments that remind you why FKA twigs is such an incredible artist.
3.5/5
