Hello, gorgeous! Today, we’re thrilled to welcome Daisy Alioto—writer, editor, and media executive. Since 2021, Daisy has been at the helm of Dirt, “a next-generation entertainment brand using emerging technology to tell the coolest stories about culture and collecting.” Dirt is home to three dynamic newsletters—Dirt, Prune, and Strung—bringing readers fresh takes on entertainment and culture, design and interiors, and even tennis. In this feature, Daisy shares some of the different media that has shaped her journey to leading her own media brand. Read on for the full interview, and don’t forget to follow Daisy on Shelf!

ShelfMAG: What book do you wish you could read again for the first time? Why?

@daisyalioto: The Great Gatsby. When I read it for the first time in high school it helped me understand the difference between a book and literature. The last line is perfect, I hope to write something that perfect someday.

ShelfMAG: What song would wake you up if you were in a coma?

@daisyalioto: Temperature by Sean Paul. First song I grinded to (on a boat).

ShelfMAG: Who was the first fictional character you identified with as a kid?

@daisyalioto: Belle from Beauty and the Beast, I love bookish brunette representation.

ShelfMAG: Who was the last musical artist you changed your mind about?

@daisyalioto: Steely Dan––not just for dads.

ShelfMAG: The item on your shelf most likely to stay there forever?

@daisyalioto: Frank Ocean's Blonde on vinyl, a gift from my husband.
