What's on Courtney Kinnare's Shelf?
ISSUE I | What's On My Shelf?
Brooklyn-based artist and resident trinket girl™, Courtney Kinnare, gives us a glimpse into what’s on her shelf.
[On the artist INTV]
Something I've been super into lately is DJing. For my birthday this year, I got my own set of decks, and I just got back from Three Points in Miami, listened to a bunch of new music, and was really inspired by INTV. I don’t know how to pronounce it, but INTV, you crushed your set.
[On the book The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron]
The Artists Way is always a classic, it’s a 12-week course guiding you on your creative process and getting to know yourself better and has been pivotal in my artistic journey.
[On her digital camera]
Another item on my shelf is my digital camera. Everybody loves when I bring...can I say sexy cam? She's been donned the name sexy cam because every picture comes out sexy, honestly. This is the Nikon Perfect 3000. Best of the best.
[On trinkets]
One of my favorite things to collect are rocks and shells. I'm a huge trinket girlie, so I have so many little knickknacks and trinkets everywhere. The fact that this is naturally made…I've been trying to recreate an effect like this, but some things are just kind of better as they are.
[On the show Money Heist]
I actually love watching Money Heist in its original European Spanish version to try and brush up on my skills even though I’m not that great. I like a little bit of a thriller, I love a little bit of scary.
[On Amethyst by Courtney Kinnare]
I just started doing gel manicures, and I got these chrome nail powders, but I actually discovered one color. I really love the effect on my nails. So I started using that in my art pieces. My process with these pieces is I'm taking resin over a mirror and layering a bunch of different translucent colors. And once I started introducing these powdered elements in as well, it's just created so much more of that magical, mystical, well not mystical—it has created a lot more of that magical, ethereal look that I think encapsulates me so much.
