What's on Corbin Chase's Shelf?

ISSUE I | What's On My Shelf?

Bet you can’t name one person who’s both a charcuterie stylist and been on two seasons of American Idol. Good thing we can. Tap into New York City comedic legend and freelancer extraordinaire, Corbin Chase’s Shelf.

[On the album Blue Tango by Les Baxter]

I've been really into tangos lately. I love anything that was made before Taylor Swift's mom was born. It's super dramatic, and whenever you're walking down the street you just absolutely feel main character.

[On the game SSX 3]

If I'm not spending every single dollar I have on clothing, I'm at my house and I'm playing SSX 3. Yeah, this just makes me feel closer to the male world.

[On the book How to Have Impossible Conversations by Peter Boghossian & James Lindsay]

I learned how to read last year, and ever since then, I have been pushing myself to read about one book a day. And that's not a joke. I've been reading about a book a day this year. Recently I've been reading How to Have Impossible Conversations, and it made getting the Shelf team to come and film this so much easier.

[On the Interview Magazine article “Olivia Rodrigo and Phoebe Bridgers Let It All Out”]

If you're like me, you live a life of spite. And I used to have a boss who, every day made me start my job by repeating back to him that I'm not special, so as I was reading this article in a magazine, I saw myself in it. I love to read (as you learned) and I love magazines, so one thing you can find on my shelf is a link to this Olivia Rodrigo interview in Interview Magazine.

[On the film Suspiria]

Sometimes I love to watch movies. My favorite most recently has been this Italian trilogy. It starts with Suspiria, made by the Argento brothers. Delicious, amazing, incredible. And nothing pairs better with an Italian movie that you can't understand than a cold bag of chips.

[On the YouTube video “SIXPEAT: Team USA wins historic gold in Gymnastics Worlds team event”]

I love TV. I tell everyone and I infect everyone with what I'm watching. Most recently, my niche obsession has been Olympic gymnastics. I don't know what it is, but if I'm feeling bad about myself, watching Team USA land like four flips when I can't even touch my toes makes me feel like I did something that day.

[On working]

Oh, what do I do? I do a lot of different things. Right now, I'm a freelance producer, so I work on sets, play piano, I sing. I was on American Idol season 10 and season 13. I also run restaurants all over New York. I do charcuterie styling because you have to. I make sure everyone's happy. I bring people together, I do catering. If you do something, I've done it, and it didn't work out for me, so I'm doing something else now.
