What's Celebrity Memoir Book Club's Shelf?
ISSUE I | What's On My Shelf?
Claire Parker and Ashley Hamilton are not like other book club podcasters. Each week the New York-based stand-up comics read a different celebrity memoir, unpacking their findings on their show, Celebrity Memoir Book Club. Join us as taste-makers Claire and Ashley share some of the different items on their shelves with us.
[On the “Far Away” music video by Nickelback]
Ashley: It just came up recently-
Claire: Stop! She’s always talking about this video.
Ashley: I do not defend—actually, I do. I defend Nickelback, honestly. I’m not a fan, but I think the way they get shit on is not entirely warranted.
[On the book My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante]
Claire: It was the first time I realized how important female friendship was to me. No one had really said it to me before, besides Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
[On the film In Her Shoes]
Claire: Toni Collette’s character is wooed by a guy that has the most incredible game. He’s a great orderer, so he’s like I’m taking you to this restaurant. It’s the best restaurant in the city and this is what we’re going to get. That was very hot to me.
Ashley: That is such a grandma answer, to be like “you know what’s nice about that young man? He knows so much about Sushi”
[On the film Clueless]
Claire: I don’t love the siblings…
Ashley: Can I say I don’t love the rom in it, but the com *nods in approval*. When you watch that movie joke for joke, it goes so hard.
[On Celebrity Memoir Book Club]
Claire: Nothing makes me laugh more than my best friend Ashley.
Ashley: I was gonna say you!
