Cassiesbooks joins Shelf

ISSUE II | Shelf Introspect

@cassiesbooks is the kind of creator every book lover should follow

With over 4 million followers across Instagram and TikTok, this Canadian queen of BookTok is making literature feel cool—one video at a time. Her content is a cozy-meets-chaotic blend of hot takes, book hauls, and pop culture commentary that feels like a FaceTime from your best friend. Whether she’s dissecting The Hunger Games’ impact on Gen Z or offering brutally honest reading wrap-ups, Cassie brings humor, heart, and a refreshingly unfiltered energy to the online book world. Her pastel-coded feed and signature glasses are instantly recognizable, but it’s her relatability and sharp opinions that keep her followers coming back. From crying over fictional characters to rating books like they’re exes, Cassie has built a space where reading isn’t just a hobby—it’s a personality. Today, she’s answering some of our questions about the other kinds of media that’ve shaped her into one of the biggest BookTok creators online.

ShelfMAG: If you could trade places with any fictional character who would it be and why?

@cassiesbooks: If I could trade places with any fictional character, it would be Belly from The Summer I Turned Pretty. I, too, want two brothers fighting over me while I stay in a huge summer home.

ShelfMAG: What album do you associate with your adolescence?

@cassiesbooks: A big part of my childhood was the Teenage Dream album by Katy Perry, and an album I'd associate with my teenage years is Melodrama by Lorde.

ShelfMAG: What album would wake you up from a coma?

@cassiesbooks: The Wicked movie album. That album could raise me from the dead.

ShelfMAG: A movie you wish you could unsee and why?

@cassiesbooks: There are so many movies I wish I could unsee, mainly so I could experience them for the first time again. I would say Spider-Man: No Way Home, because experiencing that for the first time again would be so cool. Don't think I'll ever feel the same way I did when Andrew Garfield showed up on screen in that movie ever again.

ShelfMAG: The item on your shelf most likely to stay there forever?

@cassiesbooks:

Taylor Swift! She's never going anywhere.
